With this program we will visit one of the new tourist circuits of Cusco. The “Humantay Lagoon” is a natural attraction located in the village of Soraypampa, formerly only visited by those who ventured to make the trek to the Salkantay, but now it has become one of the most visited places by travelers. Visiting the Humantay Lagoon will not take you more than 1 day, the walk is easy if you have previously acclimatized yourself in Cusco and the reward for this effort will be the wonderful landscape that is observed in this turquoise lagoon.

Humantay Lake Full Day

Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake – Cusco

Early in the morning we are going to pick you up from your hotel around 5.00 am, and drive to the north west of Cusco city, enjoying the beautiful scenery as corn, potatoe quinua crops and see how the life is on the countryside, once in the pass of Willki we´ll have the chance to see the second highest snow caped mountain, of Salkantay (6251mt.)  a local good protector for the population around, continuing our drivin for about 2hrs. we arrive to Mollepata (2900mt.), where we are going to stop for our breakfast and walk for a while in the area, after that we continue in our transportation for 1 hour more to get to Soraypampa (3900mt) our trail head, in this area there will be the chance to rent a horse (one way) close by we can see still he snow caped of Salkantay,  once every one will be ready we start our adventure hike to Humantay lake (4200masl) we’ll ascend  300 mts. aproxicimately  walking uphill it we’ll take us 1:30 hrs. approx.

Along with your professional guide you will explore and admire this outstanding lake, located at the base of the snow caped mountain of Humantay your guide will explain its origins and formation and will give you a free time to seat an relax admiring the area, if we could be lucky see some condors flying around, aftewards we are going to walk back to Soraypampa to have our lunch and drive back to Cusco, arriving to your hotel around 5:00pm.

Note: On the trail head there will be the change to hire a horse (S/80.00) per person, one way), not included in the price, you can paid for it at the trail head.

Going to the Humantay lake riding a horse take usually 1hr. approximately but just close by, you have to walk for 10 minutes to arrive to the lake.

IMPORTANT:

To enjoy and explore of this tour we recommend to stay at least 2 days in Cusco, to get a good adjusting to the altitude to avoid any problems with it and doing some of this tours as the City tour, the Sacred Valley of the Incas or Moray and Maras.

WHAT TO BRING

The geography where the Rainbow Mountain is located, conditions its weather. Despite of the time of the year, there are always seasonal variations: it can be sunny and still cold or rainy but dry and kind of mild. Tourists must be ready and equipped to enjoy their trip under safe conditions. The following packing list gathers items that you will need in your visit.

Clothing

  • Wear clothes in layers: It is hard to guess what the weather will be like, that’s why layering is really helpful. Make sure you are using wickable clothes, cotton ones keep much moisture on them.
  • Use short or long-sleeved t-shirts for your first layer.
  • Pack lightweight jackets of fleece or microfleece for the second layer.
  • Wear a waterproof jacket for the third layer.
  • Carry gloves to protect your hands from the cold.
  • Wear hiking boots or trekking shoes.
  • Use thick socks
  • Pack a hat in case is going to be sunny day.
