CHINCHERO-MARAS-MORAY-INCA BRIDGE-OLLANTAYTAMBO

PROGRAM

At 07:30 am. We are going to pick you up from your hotel in Cusco  (3,339 mt/10,954ft) and drive for about  50 minutes to reach the village, of Chinchero (3,762 mt/12,342 ft) in our way we are going to pass through some local communities of farmers and enjoy part of the Andes mountain range with some snow capped peaks as Chicon (5,530 mt/18,143ft) and Veronica (5,800mt/19,028ft) upon our arrival to this village, local ladies of a weaving center wait for us with their tipical clothes, on this places we are going to learn the ancient techniques that they inherited from their ancestors and still use  natural staff as roots, flowers and leaves for dying the alpaca and llama wool, we are going to see the different process that local ladies will show us to get the final product, afterwards we drive to Maras (3,050mt/10,006ft)  the ancient salt pans, known as the Maras Salt Mines, or Salineras de Maras.located in the mountainside, you will find thousands of shallow pools filled with salt water. Eventually, they evaporate and leave behind crystallized salt. The salt pans have been in operation for more than 500 years. To this day, they are mined by local families for their special, beloved Peruvian pink salt. After that we drive to visit Moray a fascinating archaeological site that consists of several enormous circular depressions made from concentric circular stone terraces which diminish in size towards the middle in a similar fashion to an amphitheater, Moray (3,520mt/11,548ft) may have been used as a kind of Inca agricultural experimental station to study the effects of the different climatic conditions on crops. Hence these giant circular structures are often referred to as the “Inca Greenhouses”. After exploring these structures that are  considered really unique, we drive on a dirt route to Pachar  (2,953mt/9,688ft) from where we walk on part of the Inca trail that will lead us to the village of Ollantaytambo (2792mt/9,160ft) this trail was built on the left side of the Urubamba river, along of our hike we can observe some Inca remains as farming terraces the still are used by the local people to cultivate the big white corn, after 35 minutes we arrive to the Inca bridge, there will observe how the Quechua people in the ancient time built this impressive bridge as part of the Inca trail net to connect Cusco, the sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo, Machupicchu and all the empire, after our lunch in Ollantaytambo we are going to visit an original Inca house, many years ago important people of the royal class lived there, will have the chance to see its original structure and how the owner still she is leaving there, after wards we are going to walk through original Inca streets to reach the main site of Ollantaytambo, we are going to visit the most important areas of this complex as the temple of the windows, the temple of the Sun, the ancient temple and have great views of the hole complex and the town.

Finally, we drive back to Cusco and transfer to your hotel

WHAT TO BRING

The area where we are going to do our adventure half day tour is in Cusco and its surroundings. Despite of the time of the year, there are always seasonal variations: it can be sunny and still cold or rainy but dry and kind of mild. Tourists must be ready and equipped to enjoy their tour under safe conditions. The following packing list gathers items that you will need for this tour.

Clothing

  • Wear clothes in layers: It is hard to guess what the weather will be like, that’s why layering is really helpful. Make sure you are using wickable clothes, cotton ones keep much moisture on them.
  • Use short or long-sleeved t-shirts for your first layer.
  • Pack lightweight jackets of fleece or microfleece for the second layer.
  • Wear a waterproof jacket for the third layer.
  • Carry gloves to protect your hands from the cold.
  • Wear hiking boots or trekking shoes.
